Nature the Designer: Garden of Tomorrow Festival
Meet the speakers shaping our talk at the Garden of Tomorrow festival this Saturday
If you draw inspiration from nature to feed your practice; or want to understand how; we’d love to see you at our next in-person discussion this Saturday 15 June, as we takeover a section of the Garden of Tomorrow Festival, the second edition hosted by nature inspired luxury interiors brand House of Hackney.
It’s a pleasure to continue the AGREENCULTURE conversation - especially as we launched our print journal last year at The House of Hackney Showroom. Our discussion invites three individuals from different sections of the clothing supply chain, including a farmer, a footwear designer and award winning sustainable designer. Keep scrolling to read their bios.
Date: Saturday 15th June
Time: 2pm - 3pm
Address: The Last Days Shoreditch, 74-76 Leonard Street, EC2A 4QS
about the festival
The Garden of Tomorrow is a collective of positive disruptors, activists, artists and organisations who believe in the power of creativity and collaboration to make a change, and a future where we are a part of Nature, not apart from it.
Presented by the House of Hackney (who held our AGREENCULTURE book launch), this festival of ideas is a coming together of passionate advocates for the regeneration of nature for the quality of life for all generations. Across three days, there will be workshops and talks, including ours…
about the talk
In this talk moderated by Colèchi co-founder Tina Wetshi, we will rethink structure and supply chain models to explore how we can make sure Nature takes centre stage as the designer, and what collaboration with each other and the natural world looks like. We hope to see you there, but first get to know the panellists.
the panellists
Kiki Grammatopoulos is a designer at New Balance who recently graduated MA Material Futures from Central Saint Martins. Kiki’s graduation project ‘Rewind the Run’ explored how to democratise Urban Rewilding, allowing city dwellers to engage in the ecological growth of the local environment through footwear.
Inspired by animal hooves and fur, this project proposes that our outsoles could promote biodiversity and further cultivate ecosystems, by mimicking the behaviour of ‘keystone species’.
Gracey Owusu-Agyemang is an emerging Multidisciplinary designer from Ghana & Namibia whose work focuses on Afrofuturism through the lens of agriculture. Through this, she creates regenerative fashion using traceable natural fibres, self grown regenerative cotton, natural dyes and fastenings that are fully compostable, all while focusing on Soil Regeneration. She is a 2023/24 BFC MA Scholarship recipient, Canada Goose HumaNature Awardee for Responsible Design and Sustainable Emerging Designer Awardee at MFCW.
Tim Williams is an agroecological farmer who places soil health front and centre. With a lifetime of farming experience under his belt, Tim specialises in farming that works in tune with nature, producing nutrient dense food and quality fibres on a regenerative organic farm down in West Dorset. Alongside day-today farming, Tim also advises and supports others on their regenerative farming journey.
