We can’t wait to kick off our brand new monthly talk series: YKWU Digital next Monday. For knitwear professionals, by knitwear professionals. First up is entrepreneur minded designer and start-up consultant Moyang Yang, founder of MOYA London, who will take us through her experience building a successful knitwear business through her community first, product second approach.
Read a sneaky preview of the slides here.
We first met Moyang at an event in London hosted by UKFT, she held a beautiful luxury loupy crochet bag which we later on found out was her own brand MOYA London. As we began talking she openly shared some of the ups and downs of starting a knitwear brand from home, following years in the fashion industry. The first collection of bags sold out within two weeks of launching via pre-sales. During our chat she mentioned how it was important to build up a client base, get feedback from customers; ensure a luxury experience before investing in expensive branding and marketing - and how important the planning stage was in ensuring sucess.
Alongside producing collections which are spread out throughout the year, Moyang also teaches creatives how to turn knitting into a brand. She will be sharing her knowledge with us next Monday 26th Feburary at 7pm from the comfort of our sofa’s.

“Having worked in fashion e-commerce for the last 10 years, I watched this space becoming more and more aware of its environmental and social impact. However, many brands still struggle to find sustainable material or production process that allow them to create outstanding designs. As a results, brands and consumers often had to choose between being sustainable or being cool.”
